I came across this sentence in a book I'm reading right now and reflected on it a bit.
You see, faith isn't just a cognitive awareness of something but rather an experiential relationship. The biblical concept of knowledge is much deeper than facts and information - it's penetrates the soul to a deep intimate understanding.
So, my faith and trust in God is predicated not on my knowledge about God but rather my knowledge of God.
Seminary has been wonderful in connecting the dots, filling in the pieces, and painting a more full picture of who God is - but the real moments of spiritual growth in the areas of faith and trust come from my simple times of praying and reading God's word. In those moments I'm genuinely learning about the character and nature of God in the same way I learn about my bride when we date.
